WHO WE ARE

Passionate, collaborative, always learning.

Our goal is to empower creatives to pursue their craft full-time. While our founders navigated the choppy waters of professional music-making alone, we want to give our talent the support we never had by providing mentorship tailored to each individual.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Building a Collective

My quest has always been a career exploring my creative passions and supporting others in realizing theirs. Riverland Collective is the realization of my vision and the vehicle that brings together people who make music – a home – where creatives develop their craft.

Throughout my life I have met so many exceptionally thoughtful, talented, creative, and smart individuals. From my involvement in music and sports in my teens, to my adult years where I have juggled two careers – elementary school teacher and producer / songwriter / musician –

I’ve worked with and befriended hundreds of people on teams, in classes, in bands. Those experiences have taught me that creativity + talent + collaboration equals something much greater than each on its own. Experience has also taught me to recognize when I am in the midst of something special.

I am in the midst of something special with this team as we create this vehicle for both artists. I am driving right now, and not always sure of the way, but I have no doubt that we are getting there.

Meet the Team

Joe Martinez

FOUNDER & PRODUCER

Joe’s development as a musician began recording music on cassette decks with his brother and teaching himself to play multiple instruments, then working as a stagehand at big DC venues, and eventually landing professional work in TV shows, films, radio, and commercials. Simultaneously, he spent almost two decades creating rich learning environments as a school teacher. Through it all, his driving forces (and the spirit behind Riverland) have remained the same — an unwavering passion for the arts and for helping others reach their fullest potential.

Nalini Sekhri-Martinez

CO-FOUNDER, BUSINESS & LICENSING LEAD

Nalini’s belief in the power of music began in India, where she grew up listening to both Bollywood and “western” music on her parents’ LP player. Her professional life launched her into the tech world — from managing a $40M global sales pipeline to her current role as VP at a cybersecurity sales firm — but her personal life remained very much intertwined with music when she married Joe. Her vast expertise in marketing, sales, and business development keeps the Riverland engine running.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & OPERATIONS

Erin’s love for music sparked in early childhood when her dad would play Dire Straits albums and then pop quiz her on the tracks. More than anything, Erin loves connecting people. Her history as an actor has allowed her to hone her communication and relationship building skills, and five years ago she made the jump to music bringing her talents to the renowned music house, Audiomachine. There she was able to apply her instincts and creativity to navigate within the artist, client, and business worlds. She’s thrilled now to be able to contribute her experience and energy doing what she loves as a member of the Riverland team, where wonderful people and discovering new music fill her day.

TESTIMONIALS

“I really enjoyed working on the tracks for Riverland Collective. I felt the songs, production, and arrangements were top-notch; some really great songwriting, with the production and mixes very refined as well.”

“With over 40 years radio programming, I have had extensive contact with independent bands of many genres.  Tenacity and ingenuity in addition to talent are key to being successful in the music business.  Which is why I have a warm place in my heart for Joe (and Martinez & Guthrie).  I've known them for 12+ years to be good, honest people.  So I am pleased to see Riverland Collective get off the ground!"

— Bill Evans, XM Satellite Radio, KFOG, WLUP
